| Americký Den-D je tady. Za nádherného slunečného počasí a při 22 stupních nad nulou (alespoň tady v Alexandrii, Washingtonu a okolí) se od rána stály fronty před volebními místnostmi. Na výsledky netrpělivě čekají nejen v USA, ale i v zahraničí. Bude to Kerry nebo Bush? Na rozdíl od většiny Evropanů budu mnohem raději, když presidentem zůstane George Bush. Proč? Protože dle mého názoru má současný president rozhodnost potřebnou za současné situace. John Kerry mě v debatách nepřesvědčil, že, mimo jiné, zvládne vést USA společně s ostatními demokratickými státy ve válce s terorismem. Takže: Bush & Cheney, 2004!! A teď jdu sledovat průběžné výsledky, i když pochybuju, že konečné výsledky budou do rána známy.
Aktualizace, 3.11., 1:57 EST: Zatím to pro presidenta Bushe vypadá velmi dobře. Má teď 269 hlasů, což by stačilo ke znovuzvolení. Navíc má šanci získat hlasy i Iowy, Nového Mexica a Nevady. Demokraté pochopitelně zpochybnili Ohio. Ještě stále to bude zajímavá noc. |
The US D-Day is here. While it was brilliantly sunny and warm (72 degrees Fahrenheit, at least here in Alexandria and Washington area), people waited in lines from early morning to cast their votes. The election results are anxiously awaited not only in the USA but abroad as well. Who will it be: Kerry or Bush? Unlike most Europeans, I will prefer if George Bush is re-elected. Why? Because, in my opinion, the current president has the decisiveness necessary in the current situation. John Kerry has not convinced me during debates he would be able, among other things, to lead the USA together with other democratic countries in the war with terrorism. So: Bush & Cheney, 2004!! And now I leave to watch the preliminary results, although I doubt the final results will be known by tomorrow morning.
Update, Nov. 3, 1:57am EST: So far it looks very good for President Bush. He is at 269 electoral votes, with a chance of winning Iowa, New Mexico, and Nevada. The Democrats challenged Ohio, of course. It will still be an interesting night. |
