První civilní let do vesmíru - The first civilian space flight
| První civilní let do vesmíru úspěšně skončil.

The first civilian space flight was successful. The "SpaceShipOne" piloted rocket plane landed in the Mojave Desert after reaching the altitude of 62 miles. I watch it live on "Fox" TV. It's very interesting. Although "SpaceShipOne" did not reach the orbit, it still means the space flights could soon stop being a privilege of governments.
The pilot astronaut, Mike Melvill, said after landing: "The flight was spectacular. It was a mindblowing experience." |

Via Instapundit:
Rand Simberg was at the launch and has numerous posts about it.
Woohoo! Phil Bowermaster has numerous posts, too. And apparently they did pass the 100km/62mi mark that's often used as the demarcation point between the atmosphere and outer space.
And Space.com reporter Leonard David has filed his report from the scene.
MORE: Dale Amon has another firsthand report.

I will definitely check the links you suggested. I find it very exiting and it was really great watching on TV the landing of SpaceShipOne in the Mojave Desert.
