Politici schválili Ústavu EU - Politicians have agreed EU Constitution

Takže evropští politici, jejichž politické strany byly v nedávných volbách do Evropského parlamentu většinou poraženy, odsouhlasili text evropské Ústavy. Hm. So the European politicians, whose political parties were mostly defeated in the recent elections to the European Parliament, have agreed on a text of a future European Constitution. Hm. While the voters sent them a message they didn't care for more eurocracy, the politicians don't seem to get it. Well, there is still the ratification process, which means people in many EU countries must approve the Constitution in a referendum. I don't give it much chance.

Politicians have agreed EU Constitution (Mike - ozvi se - email me / mrkni se - visit me, 21.06.2004, 10:05:00)
I'm not convinced that any message was sent at all. The voter turnout was so low in most EU countries that the only message sent was that the hard-left and hard-right can always be counted on to vote.

IMO (Alva - ozvi se - email me / mrkni se - visit me, 22.06.2004, 19:19:25)
I would say that by not coming to the elections, people in EU showed they were not interested in the grand schemes of "federal" Europe cooked up by a bunch of politicians. I think it was also a sign the EU citizens lacked any connection to the current EU - it's too distant, too bureaucratic, and nobody seems to understand its arcane "acquis".
